Before her breakthorugh, Marie Digby was an undergraduate at University of California. Since the age of 19, she has been taking part in various open-mike session in LA, day by day this shaped her into a good singer who take the stage on it’s own. Subsequently, she quitted studies and penned her singing career with Hollywood records. She was willing to give what it takes to realise her dreams. Until recently, she has finally released her latest ablum-Unfold, amidst so much anticiptations. Altogether, she did 34 acoustic covers. After the grand glamourous opening of Ironman, fans of marvel superheros are hunger for more action-trilled sequels. The Incredible Hulk is hitting the cinemas nationwide on 13 June during the Summer holiday. Yet another CGI effect-mopped blockbuster, everyone seems never had enough of it. It is the second installment following The Hulk (2003) directed by Lee Ang. Everyone knew that movie was a disasterious flop (Which was totally ignored like an unwanted mutant).

It was filled with emotional dialogues and lacked the action thrills. What I knew was that Hulk could really jumped very far. Haha! Well, let us put the past behind and look forward to the upcoming sequel.  I am glad that Lee Ang eventually came to senses realising action-packed movie wasn’t his forte at all!Subsequently, Lee Ang shot to fame with Brokeback Mountain (more to his type). Enough of him!

This movie is directed by Louis Leterrier (directed Transporter 1&2). With such pedigree, I am sure Louis is going to let the audiences eye ball roll with unbelieving stunts and breathtaking moves as we have seem in his previous productions.  Tony Stark (a.k.a Iron Man) will also make a suprise apearance in the movie. So much surprises and anticipation awaits. This movie surely makes the cut yet another biggest movie of this summer.

Laptop mummified!!!

I came across this website http://52nightsunplugged.ning.com. It is a grassroot movement campaigned by a group of tech greeks, internet addicts, Blackberry thumbers and compulsive instant messagers to wrest back control of their lives by daring to completely cut off from technology even if it is only for a day (a.k.a secular Sabbath) . It forces you to re-engage with the real world. One night a week for a year, you are going to completely unplug from anything with a screen.

Have you been scrolling up and down the mobie phone’s menu inhabitually when there are no expecting calls or incoming messages? Watching videos of Madonna’s latest MTV (Hard Candy) on YouTube for hours not realising you have piles of paperworks to be completed? Surfing on the Internet aimlessly at hime instead of going out for a run? In some cases, blogging in their dreams and hearing imaginery instant messages.  Well, all these are tell tale signs of technology addiction. It is time to unplug!

Recently, Strait Times interviewed our very own local star blogger, Mr. Miyagi, mentioned that blogging has become a part of his life, he even blog while he is doing shitty business in the toilet. In this era, technology has taken over our life and became part of us. It is time to get your life back. Can Gadget-loving Singapreans live up to the challenge?

In this fast moving society, many work-obessed Singaporean being connected and cotactable 24/7 isnt just a modern day addiction they just cannot shake off, but a necessary evil to stay or get ahead. More Importantly, we have take for granted that email should always be replied to promptly, often within 24 hours and SMSes to be attended to immediately. Thus, the expectation has come about because norms have been formed around it.

Sundays are usually switchoff-days for me anyway, like many Singapreans, many waking up in time for lunch. For me, exams is only 4 weeks away from now. I am setting a curfew to restrict the number of hours spent on computer. It should be a breeze through as though.  Leading a normal life. Ordinary indeed! Are you game for it? If you seriously considering to give it a try, don’t wait and start now.  Haha. Look at what I have done to my sister’s laptop. Hehe.

When i saw this clip, my first expression was “Wow! only six years old and she can sing so well!” Err… What was I doing when I was her age? Probably, stacking sand castle at the playground. Haha! Connie Talbot was only six when she entered TV talent search competition Britain’s GOT Talent last year, abeit to American Idol. Her rendition of Garland’s Over The Rainbow was unspeakably brilliant. Not only she melted the icy heart of one of the judges, Simon Cowell, and blown off the whole audience floor with her steady and powerful vocal. Eventually, she lost out to Paul Potts in the finals.  Not only she is brilliant, also she is courageous. Everyone enjoys!

It was a socialist gathering in Paris in 1889 that Labour was born. At the International Socialist Congress then, 400 delegates from 20 countries met and voted to hold an international demontration to push for an eight-hour work day. The date set was May 1890. Since then May day is a day where angish labours and unions lashes the street in potest and marches with banners for better employment terms and working conditions. Not in Singapore though. Let us look at what is going around the world today. For me, this is just another day to get by. It isn’t meant for unemployed…Haha!

Over the weekends, I managed to catch The Forbidden Kingdom. Frankly, I was steeing myself after I saw the trailer fo this movie. An American teenager travelling back into space to return the magical staff to the rightful owner:. This movie set off against the backdrop of the fantasy tale on the Chinese classic Journey To West and all the ingredient for a Hollywood mash-up is complete.

The story – In the Celestial Court, Monkey king was touted as the superior one. Then, this Jade warlord was utterly jealous and he challenged the Monkey King to a duel. However, Monkey King was tricked into abandoning his magical staff and “qi” power during the fight. I guess you already know the next move, the cunning warlord used underhand means to defeat monkey king though he never really defeated him but freezed him. Then, the prophency of someone returning the magical staff arised. Obviously, Jade Warload did not buy the story.   

The centrestage took off with Jason Tripitak as seeker who is a kung-fu-obessed fan who stumbles across a mysterious staff in a China antique shop and transported through the unparallel dimension and back to an ancient China where he faced the heculean task of freeing the fabled Monkey king imprisoned by the warlord and embarked on his journey to the 5 Elements Mountain. The journey was met with obstacles and hurdles.   You would be impressed by the angmoh kid’s immense knowlege of chinese kungfu. Along the way, he befriended Lu Yan, the drunken master (Jackie Chan), the silent monk ( Jet Li) and Sparrow ( Lu Yifei). They have a common mission to kill the dastarly warlord.

Disappointments – The Monkey King was speaking interchangeable English and Mandarin. It was a total mismatch. On one hand, all the chinese actors and actresses were speaking english and the other the angmoh kid tried to speak mandarin. I felt that the plot was messy. Nevertheless, who cares about the plot. Everyone was looking out for the 8 minutes fighting scene between Jackie and Jet.

Secondly, Fans of Lu Yifei are gonna to be disappointed. She looked ordinary as compared to “天龙八部” Where she was more feminine and ladylike. She was outshrined by her fellow compatriot, Li Bing Bing a.k.a 白发魔女.

The ending segment was cliche. Lu Yifei appeared (recarnated, i suppose) back in the modern city and coincidentally, the angmoh kid caught up with her. Isn’t this particular scene look famliar to the one we saw in “The fairy tale” by Hu Ge and Lin Yi Cheng. Does that ring a bell? Lame loh! No creativity.  

Likes – What was really worth mentioning was the fighting scenes between Jet and Jackie. They were exchanging fisticuffs in enjoyaly old fashsioned fight choreography that shows off their nimble footwork and physical dexterity. Unlike the nonsensical fight sequences tricked out too much CGI effects in most western action-packed movies. The plot’s is creaky and there are inevitably cheesy moments. A perfect marriage of two greatest kung-fu masters  with a blur angmoh kid, is actually rather entertaining.

Part of the reasons why I am so forgiving of this utter nonsense is becuse Jackie himself had warned that this movie is in fact utterly nonsense. Do not expect too much from this movie as Jackie said”I thought it was a nonsense!” Well, at least director Rob Minkiff had put together an incredible cast that will please the mass audience.
